Secure a Better Future with a Military Discharge Upgrade

A military discharge can affect your access to benefits, employment, and reputation. If you have a less-than-honorable discharge, you may be eligible for a discharge upgrade. Crisp and Associates Military Law specializes in helping veterans and service members navigate the process of upgrading their discharge.

Veterans’ Benefits
An upgrade can qualify you for healthcare, education, home loans, and other benefits.

01

Employment Opportunities
Many employers prefer candidates with an honorable discharge.

02

Correct Unjust Discharges

If your discharge was the result of an error or personal challenges, an upgrade can help restore your reputation.

The Discharge Upgrade Process

01
Application

Complete the DD-293 form to request a review of your discharge. You can choose a decision based on documents or an in-person hearing.

02
Board Review

Your case will be reviewed by the appropriate Discharge Review Board (DRB), which considers factors like your service history, community involvement, and family life.

03
Hearing

If needed, you can attend a hearing with the DRB to present your case. You can appeal if your upgrade request is denied.

04
Appeal to the BCMR

If the DRB denies your request, you can appeal to the Board for Correction of Military Records (BCMR).

Special Considerations for Veterans

If you’ve been diagnosed with PTSD, TBI, or MST, recent memorandums offer liberal consideration to those seeking discharge upgrades:
  • Hagel Memo
  • Kurta Memo
  • Wilkie Memo
  • Carson Memo
If your discharge was linked to these conditions, you may have an easier path to an upgrade.
